Assoc. Prof. Prasad Kaparaju has joined Griffith School of Engineering, Griffith University (Nathan Campus) as Lecturer (Renewable Energy), Environmental Engineering in July 2014. Dr Kaparaju holds a PhD degree in Environmental Science and Technology from the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland (2003). Previously, Dr Kaparaju has worked as Adjunct Professor/University Lecturer and Sr. Researcher at the Department of Biological & Environmental Science, University of Jyvaskyla, Finland (2009-14), as Asst. Professor at DTU-Environment, Technical University of Denmark (2004-07) and as Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of Copenhagen (2007-08). He also worked as Visiting Scientist at the Laboratory of Environmental Biotechnology, INRA (Narbonne, France). Dr Kaparaju has 11 years of post-doctoral research experience in the field of Renewable Energy Technologies, Environmental Technology, Solid Waste Management and Biomass Conversion Technologies and Climate Change. Dr Kaparaju’s current research interests include development of environmentally sustainable bioprocesses and technologies for biofuels production and nutrient recovery from industrial and agricultural organic wastes, use of digestates for crop production, sustainable renewable energy systems, LCA and technologies to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Dr Kaparaju has participated in several national and international research projects and supervised graduate and undergraduate students in various projects related to biogas, biohydrogen and bioethanol production and, biomass characterization and conversion technologies. Dr Kaparaju has published more than 33 peer reviewed research papers and 2 book chapters. His recently concluded research project was the EU 7th framework program project: Valorisation of foodwaste for biogas production (VALORGAS, Grant Agreement No: 241334). Dr Kaparaju is a Member of Bioenergy Australia, Finnish Biogas Association, Nordic Association of Agricultural Scientists and Scientific Committee Member international conferences on Anaerobic Digestion and Bioenergy conferences.
