Prof. Soottawat Benjakul was born on 1967.
He holds his Ph.D. from Oregon State University, USA. He works in
the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of
Agro-Industry, and is also the Director of the International Center
of Excellence in Seafood Science and Innovation (ICE-SSI), Prince of
Songkla University. His expertise is in the field of Seafood
Chemistry and Biochemistry, especially in the maximized utilization
of seafood processing leftovers by converting them to high
market-valued products. He has led and participated in several
national and international projects as well as supervised many
undergraduate and graduate students. He was also awarded many
prestigious awards, including the Scientific Achievement Award (The
American Biographical Institute: 500 Leaders of Science),
Outstanding Scientist of Thailand, Distinguished Research Professor
of Thailand, Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher, Ajinomoto
Award, Tanner Award (Institute of Food Technologists, USA), and many
other awards. Prof. Benjakul has an h-index: of 120 and an i10-index of 778, which is cited by around 57025 papers. He authored around 1070 papers since 1993, 11 book chapters, and 4 books. He is the Editorial Board of the Journal of Food Biochemistry (2001-present), Fisheries Science (2014-present), and Journal of Food Science (2015-present). Meanwhile, he is also acting as an Ad-hoc Reviewer of many reputable journals in Food Science and related fields.
